Accelerated Math, our school's specialized program for grades 3rd through 5th, serves high-achieving students aiming to qualify for double advanced math placement in 6th grade. Selection for Darnaby’s Brainiacs is open to fourth and fifth graders following a comprehensive test administered across both grade levels. The top ten performers from each grade will earn the privilege to become part of the Brainiacs team. These students will embark on an enriching educational journey, exploring a diverse range of subjects and honing their recall abilities in a competitive setting. Pending safety considerations, our Darnaby Brainiacs will have the opportunity to engage in friendly academic competitions, both within and outside our school district.

We're thrilled to announce the return of our Darnaby Chess Club! Chess is an incredible game that instills crucial skills like critical thinking, tactics, and strategy in students. Our Chess Club caters to a broad range of students, from 2nd to 5th grade, accommodating all skill levels. This year, we're making a strategic adjustment by limiting the number of participants, allowing us to delve deeper into chess tactics and better prepare our students for the districtwide tournament in May. Overview:

The Darnaby Diggers are back, and we're brimming with excitement for our school garden and the fantastic learning opportunities it offers our students. Our students have wholeheartedly embraced the hands-on experience of digging in the soil while delving into various scientific disciplines such as Biology and Earth Science. They not only plant and nurture, but also harvest the produce from our garden. Additionally, students will explore new concepts like composting and hydroponics. To maximize our students' time in the garden, we've made a change: Darnaby Diggers will no longer be offered in the fall but will instead feature an extended spring session, allowing for a more immersive gardening and harvest experience.

Darnaby's second-tier robotics program is undergoing a transformation to enhance the learning experience for your students. Instead of having separate clubs for LittleBits and LittleBots, this year, we are merging the two to form a unified club called "Bits and Bots." In this club, students will have the exciting opportunity to build a robot, acquire fundamental coding skills, and delve into the world of circuitry. By combining these two clubs, we believe that the time allocated to the curriculum will be better balanced, offering your students a more comprehensive and authentic learning journey.

Following the substantial engagement in LittleBots last year, Darnaby has introduced a transitional club designed specifically for our 3rd-grade students who have already completed the LittleBots curriculum. This new club, called "LittleBots XL," aims to further enhance their skills using Vex Go materials before they transition to the Vex IQ system in the 4th and 5th-grade robotics program. In LittleBots XL, students will shift their focus slightly, placing less emphasis on coding and more on construction and driver skills, helping them bridge the gap between the two robotics systems effectively.

Our STUCO club provides many services to our school and to our community at large. With a focus on leadership and community services, students who participate in this club learn many valuable skills that will last them well into their future. Every semester STUCO provides a community service project for the whole school to participate in.
